Youth X:Alt Service

Cross made of lit candles

On Sunday 20th April the young people of the Harrow and Hillingdon Circuit came together to worship and have fun at Hayes Methodist Church for Youth X:Alt. The overall theme of the evening was Hope 08 which encourages active Christianity in our communities and churches.

Youngsters creating banners on church floor The young people met up in the church and paints, pens and Creativity or chaos?sweets galore were made available. Four Graffiti art posters were made expressing the hopes, feelings of the young people and the visions they have for the church. Rev Alison Walker provided some ideas for the youngsters to expand and develop and they did a magnificent job. There are definitely some artists in the circuit. During the art work Rev Mark Davenport spoke about how we would publicise Jesus in today's world while looking at the Great Commission in Matthew 28:16-20. We saw images of many different celebrities which caused some excitement especially a picture of Brittany Spears.

The young people then paired up and went out to Hayes town centre to pick up any rubbish which people dropped during the day. They collected a great deal and showed that Christ is active in the community through acts as simple as picking up rubbish and making the area we live a more pleasant and attractive place. Several photos were taken on Hayes bandstand and they seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves. We then all moved back into the church to eat pizza and chocolate cake that was prepared by the ladies of Hayes Church, which seemed to go down very well. The art work was finished and put up in the downstairs foyer of the building and Rev Michael Hall set up some votive candles lit in the shape of a cross while a prayer was said.

A lot of hard work came into place and the result was a great evening, we have learnt a lot from this and hope to organise another event for our young people. We certainly learned that we have a lot of creative, fun and confident young people in our circuit and we need to pray for and support them.
