Vision Sunday

In the Hayes Sector Methodist Churches April is Vision month.

What is our Vision?

A Christ-centred church with visible life values for the building of our community.

The first of our Vision Sessions took place at Hayes End on Sunday, 20th April, when during our time of worship Jongi offered us much food for thought. Using passages from Acts (the stoning of Stephen) and John (the disciples' questions when Jesus tells them he is leaving them) he brought home to us the ultimate need for caring for one another.

Connecting with "our Vision", he pointed out some gains we have made:
  • explored new services
  • employed Lucy as our Pastoral Assistant
  • working on building a caring community
  • developed teaching thrust
  • embarking on worship area development
  • empowering new members
  • becoming a visible church
and some challenges that still face us:
  • growing our 'Acts' community
  • becoming more contemporary and open to new church seekers
  • becoming an 'evangelical church'
  • becoming more child friendly and youth enabling
  • nurturing parenting and family life
There is so much more to be done - so many areas where challenges must be faced, and where growth is essential if we are to travel onwards in our quest as a Christ-centred church. A church that 'marks-time' is a dead church - something not to be desired for Hayes End. Others paved the way for our journeying; it is now our turn to make sure preparation continues for generations to come after us.

We moved into General Meeting mode when the Church Stewards for September 2008 - August 2009 were appointed - they are - Carmen Dunster, Anne Elkins, James Farrell, Janet Jones, George Kulasingham, Ajayi Oguntokun and one new addition, Beverley Answer, was welcomed. Since Ajayi has now served his term as Senior Steward, Janet was appointed to replace him for the next Methodist year starting in September. Our thanks go to Ajayi for his faithful service over the last 2 years. Also, the Church Representatives will be Jim Ashton, David Kingston, Angela Lount, Nicola Mercer, Beryl Rowles and Pat Walsh, who was re-appointed.

Our Vision Sunday culminated as we shared bread and wine round the Lord's Table

Final note - very many thanks to our "Live Band" - it greatly enhanced our time of worship!
