Circle the City Sponsored Walk

Some of the walkers

All Hallows by the Tower Our group was a smaller this year as the walk fell on the same Sunday as the Hayes Anniversary celebrations, but that didn't deter us as we set off for our annual trip to the City.

We ate our lunch in the park by the Tower of London and enjoyed the sunshine in the process. After registering at All Hallows by the Tower, we set off to follow the route described in the booklet. It was much improved on earlier versions and we didn't get lost once, not even when we took shortcuts provided by John who had worked in the area for many years. Along the route we visited 8 checkpoints that were mainly situated in churches which we had the opportunity to look around. At All Hallows on the Wall we were entertained by a steel band playing hymns - now that's definitely different although perhaps a little loud for a smallish space!

Sophie sporting balloon sunglasses The good thing about this walk is that it caters for all ages and there were children's entertainers at some of the churches - hence Sophie's sunglasses. There was also a children's quiz with things to find along the way, some easier to spot than others especially when you're taking shortcuts - sorry Sophie!

We had a pleasant afternoon and although we met fewer other walkers than usual (due to the 10th anniversary of the Jubilee Debt Campaign march being held in Birmingham presumably) this was still a good way to finish Christian Aid Week. We hope to raise over £250 to help their work supporting those much less fortunate than us in the developing world. Given the recent disasters in Myanmar (Burma) and China we can only hope that our efforts can help to alleviate some of these people's suffering.

Thanks to all those who sponsored us and we'll be back next year, God willing.

It is held each year on the last Sunday of Christian Aid Week and is a good way of raising funds for this agency that works around the world helping those less fortunate than ourselves to improve their lives. It's also a fun family focused trip around parts of London that we don't often visit unless we work there.
